The first RTX 2060 bill of fare from one of Nvidia's partners has arrived, and this fourth dimension it'south not one of the usual suspects simply PNY. The visitor has been in the GPU game for a long time though, and sent united states of america its overclocked version (Encounter it on Amazon) that'due south $50 more than than the Founder's Edition (FE). The chief benefit to a card like this over Nvidia's version is better cooling and a different design. Let'southward see if information technology's worth the extra cash.

PNY GeForce RTX 2060 – Design and Features

If you've followed along with GPU news over the years, you know the deal with partner cards versus Founder's Editions, which used to only be called the "reference" design. Nvidia's ain cards are unremarkably offered alee of its partners cards so that Nvidia can cash in on the early adopters who are eager to upgrade. It too commonly prices its own cards higher than partner cards to avoid directly competing with them, but not this time effectually. For the RTX 2060 all cards theoretically commencement at $349 and go up from there, which is the case with PNY'due south overclocked model equally it'southward $399.99.

More Skillful Tech Roundups

PNY'southward offering is a dual-slot card with a 2-fan cooling apparatus, only similar the FE menu. Despite its somewhat unproblematic overall design its headline feature is that it boasts quite a factory overclock compared to the Atomic number 26 card. Whereas Nvidia'due south GPU has a Boost clock of 1,680MHz, the XLR8 version from PNY goes all the way upwardly to 1,830, which is quite high for an out-of-the-box overclock. This is all kind of moot though, equally Nvidia cards will overclock themselves beyond the official Boost clock anyway thank you to GPU Boost.

The PNY carte du jour is 9.25" long, so just 0.25" longer than the FE carte du jour, but is still a smallish GPU that would go nicely in a SFF build. Its output options include DVI, HDMI 2.0b, and DisplayPort 1.four. The carte doesn't characteristic an illuminated logo on the side like the FE menu, but it does have a light bar that wraps effectually the GeForce RTX badge on the side of the menu. It glows white when the GPU is powered on, and at that place's no way to change its color, which is a bummer.

PNY GeForce RTX 2060 – Benchmarks

To exam the XLR8 GPU I dropped it into the IGN GPU test bench, which features a Skylake Core i7-7700K CPU, 16GB of DDR4 memory, an Intel SSD, Asus Prime Z270 motherboard, and an EVGA PSU. I'grand comparing it to the Founder'south Edition RTX 2060, and some of the similarly priced GTX cards.

Overall the PNY board was faster than the Founder's edition by a decent margin in several of the gaming tests, only extremely similar in others, which is non a large surprise. In that location was a bigger performance delta in some games than I anticipated, and it makes the PNY card a really skilful culling to the Founder'south Edition. It's a great card for 2560 ten 1440 gaming at 60fps, as information technology was able to practice that in every game I tested aside from Shadow of the Tomb Raider. Then again, the same tin can exist said for the FE RTX 2060 as well. It's a bully card for this resolution.

For the PNY model, its overall performance places it in between a GTX 1070 Ti and a GTX 1080, which are both powerful GPUs, only keep in mind this is a $400 GPU so that's expected actually. Glancing at Newegg's landing page for the RTX 2060 cards information technology looks similar a decent number of partner boards will exist effectually the aforementioned price, so the PNY board is priced competitively with other loftier-terminate offerings from Asus, Gigabyte, and EVGA. That said, there are several dual-and-triple fan boards that are less than $400, so the PNY carte is priced on the higher cease of the spectrum. Oddly, I checked to see if the Founder's Edition RTX 260 was still priced at $349 and non only was information technology not in stock anywhere, fifty-fifty from Nvidia, but it was listed at $429 on Newegg.

More Comprehensive GPU Reviews

Some other feather in PNY'southward cap is the XLR8 carte du jour ran libation than the Founder's Edition by 6C and information technology also clocked higher. The Founder's Edition card ran at a steady 1860MHz under load, whereas the XLR8 GPU was bustling along at 1,935MHz. I was as well able to get a decent overclock out of information technology too using the visitor's VelocityX software. My concluding clock was 2,025MHz, which is not bad for an RTX 2060. Not surprisingly the bill of fare runs quietly besides.

Purchasing Guide

The PNY GeForce RTX 2060 XLR8 Gaming Overclocked Edition has an MSRP of $399.99 but is kind of hard to find online. There'due south a few at Amazon from 3rd parties simply none on Newegg every bit of this writing (check back in the future).

See Information technology

PNY's XLR8 version of the RTX 2060 is pretty good. It runs cool and quiet, and is more than powerful than the Founder's Edition card in some games, and so that's actually all y'all can inquire for in a partner card. At $400 information technology's $50 more than expensive though, with objectively worse lighting (but a unmarried white bar of lite instead of the logo illuminated). Its no frills design is a negative at this price, only the card does perform well, so there'south a clear tradeoff.
